Sciatica Relief Starts With Finding
the Real Cause
Radiating leg pain, numbness, and tingling — we identify what's compressing the nerve and fix it.

What Is Sciatica?
Sciatica is pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve — from the lower back through the hip and buttock, and down the leg. It's usually caused by compression or irritation of the nerve root in the lumbar spine or by tension in the piriformis muscle deep in the hip.
Sciatica isn't a diagnosis — it's a symptom. The key to effective treatment is identifying what's actually compressing the nerve.
Common Causes of Sciatic Pain
The most common causes we see are lumbar disc herniation or bulging pressing on the nerve root, piriformis syndrome (a tight piriformis muscle compressing the sciatic nerve), SI joint dysfunction shifting pelvic alignment, lumbar joint restriction reducing space for the nerve, and muscle spasm in the lower back or glutes.
Our thorough exam differentiates between these causes so treatment is targeted, not generic.
How Chiropractic Care Helps Sciatica
Treatment depends on the cause. For disc-related sciatica, we use gentle lumbar adjustments and decompression techniques. For piriformis syndrome, soft tissue therapy and hip adjustments are the primary approach. Most patients receive a combination of spinal and pelvic adjustments, soft tissue and fascial release, and custom exercises to relieve compression and prevent recurrence.
For patients with confirmed disc involvement, we coordinate care with our disc issues protocol.
What to Expect During Treatment
Sciatica can be intense, but most patients feel meaningful relief within the first few visits. Our doctors start gently and progress as your body allows. A corrective care plan typically runs 6–12 visits depending on the severity and underlying cause.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a chiropractor help with sciatica?
Yes. Chiropractic care is one of the most effective conservative treatments for sciatica because it directly addresses the structural causes of nerve compression.
How long does it take for chiropractic to relieve sciatica?
Many patients notice improvement but it will vary from person to person
What is the difference between sciatica and piriformis syndrome?
Both cause similar symptoms — pain radiating down the leg. Sciatica typically originates from the lumbar spine (disc or joint issue), while piriformis syndrome involves a tight muscle in the hip compressing the nerve. Treatment differs, which is why accurate diagnosis matters.
Should I see a chiropractor or doctor for sciatica?
A chiropractor is an excellent first choice for sciatica. We can diagnose the cause, provide effective treatment, and refer for imaging or specialist care if needed.
