Gentle Needling

Our Acupuncture approach leans gentle by design. Rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol, treatment is adjusted by depth, technique, and needle placement based on what your body actually needs and how you respond in the moment.

What Is Gentle Needling?

We know "needles" is the word that makes people hesitate, but Acupuncture needles are nothing like the needles used for shots or blood draws. They're hair-thin, solid, and flexible — more like a fine strand of hair than anything most people picture.

At Triune, our approach leans gentle by design in a Japanese style of needling. Rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol, treatment is adjusted by depth, technique, and needle placement based on what your body needs and how you respond in the moment.

How Gentle Needling Works

Needles are placed at specific points to support your nervous system, circulation, and overall balance. Most people feel a light tap or brief pinch on insertion, and many don't feel it at all. Once needles are placed, it's common to feel a dull, heavy, or warm sensation — a sign the point is being engaged, not a sign something's wrong. Sharp pain isn't the goal, and it isn't typical here.

Benefits of Japanese style of Needling

This approach is particularly well-suited for needle-sensitive patients, acupuncture newcomers, anyone easing into treatment for the first time, and those who want the benefits of acupuncture without an intense sensation.

What to Expect with Gentle Needling

Most people find the experience surprisingly relaxing, enough that dozing off on the table is more the norm than the exception. If you're needle-nervous, let your provider know before your session starts. They can adjust the approach, start with fewer points, or ease you in... there's no version of "toughing it out" required here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does gentle needling hurt?

Not in the way people expect. Most people feel a light tap or brief pinch, and many don't feel the needle go in at all.

Is this different from 'regular' acupuncture?

It's the same acupuncture, just a different style. The Japanese style of needling is a lighter touch and slower pace built for comfort.

I'm nervous about needles, is this still for me?

Yes. This approach was built with exactly that in mind. Tell your provider before your session starts and treatment will be adjusted accordingly.

Can gentle needling be combined with cupping or Gua sha?

Yes! Your clinician can integrate cupping or Gua sha into your session when appropriate for the areas being treated.
