September is Brain Health Month at Triune Wellness, and for good reason: your brain is the most important organ in your body. Nothing happens without the organ under your hat. Yet in the modern world, stress, poor posture, inflammatory foods, and lack of restorative rest can overload the nervous system, leading to foggy thinking, chronic tension, and decreased resilience.
Triune's mission is to help you optimize brain and body function through chiropractic care, massage, functional nutrition, and lifestyle strategies.
Let’s dive into 5 things you can do this month to improve your brain health!
1. Chiropractic & the Brain - More Than Pain Relief
Most people think of chiropractic as “back cracking” for neck or back pain relief, but the truth runs much deeper.
Dr. Heidi Haavik, a neuroscientist and chiropractor, has led groundbreaking research showing how adjustments impact the brain itself. Her studies using EEG (brainwave analysis) and fMRI scans reveal that adjustments:
Improve the way the prefrontal cortex (the control center of the brain) processes information.
Enhance sensorimotor integration, which is how your brain perceives and controls movement.
Reduce “noise” in the nervous system, allowing clearer brain-body communication. That’s one of the reason many patients leave the office feeling ‘lighter’ in their body and mind.
In practical terms, this means chiropractic can help your brain better coordinate muscle activity, balance, posture, and even concentration. Patients often report not only less pain but also better focus, more energy, and improved athletic performance after consistent care.
2. The Nervous System Reset: F.A.S.T.
Your nervous system has two gears: sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest). Many people live stuck in fight-or-flight due to chronic stress, stressful jobs, overscheduled lives, screen overload, and poor sleep. This state taxes the brain, disrupts digestion and hormones, and weakens immunity.
One of the simplest yet most profound tools to reset the nervous system is The F.A.S.T. Technique. FAST stands for First Aid Stress Technique. It combines deep diaphragm breathing that activates the vagus nerve and capitalizes on the mindfulness practice of letting worries go. The more worry the more muscle tightness.

Try this technique to reset your brain:
Put your hand on your forehead and the other hand on your heart
Focus on just one worry of the day and rank it 0-10
Then take a deep belly Inhale slowly through the nose for 4 seconds.
Lastly, fully exhale gently through the mouth for 6–8 seconds imagining you are ‘blowing out’ or ‘letting go’ the worry.
Repeat for 2–5 minutes until the level of worry you feel for the situation decreases and you feel more relaxed.
This type of breathing was shown on a functional MRI to reset the part of the brain that processes stress! How cool is that? Pairing this with chiropractic adjustments, which remove interference to the nervous system, creates a powerful one-two punch for brain and body regulation.
3. Nutrition & Supplements for Brain Health
What you put into your body fuels your brain. Diets heavy in sugar, processed foods, and industrial seed oils increase inflammation and impair neurotransmitter function. On the other hand, whole foods, healthy fats, and targeted nutrients build a foundation for brain performance.
Some of our top brain-supporting nutrients include:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids – found in fish oil, salmon, sardines, flax, and chia seeds. These fats support memory, focus, and reduce inflammation.
B-Vitamins (B6, B9, B12) – vital for neurotransmitter production and energy metabolism. Deficiencies are linked with brain fog and mood imbalances.
Magnesium – calms overactive neurons, promotes relaxation, and supports sleep.
Antioxidants – blueberries, spinach, and green tea protect neurons from oxidative stress.
Choline (in eggs) – supports acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter essential for learning and memory.
We recommend testing your blood work through a functional medicine perspective to pinpoint deficiencies and then support with whole-food nutrition and professional-grade supplements. Everyone is unique.
It is a GUESS until you TEST!

4. Massage & Brain Health

We’re all about helping you get the most out of life here on this spinning planet. Massage isn’t just a vacation luxury, it’s a powerful tool you can build into your lifestyle to support brain health and overall well-being.
When your body is less tight, less tense, and free from nagging pain, your brain can function more clearly and efficiently. Chronic muscle tension acts like a drain on your brain’s battery, pulling energy away from focus, creativity, and healing. By releasing that stored stress through massage, you recharge your system, helping both your body and your mind perform at their best.
5. The Triune Model: Structural, Nutritional, Emotional Care
Our name, Triune, reflects a philosophy: true healing comes when we care for the three key aspects of health: structural, nutritional, and emotional. Brain health is the perfect example:
Structural: Adjustments restore spinal and nervous system balance.
Nutritional: Supplements and diet provide the raw materials the brain needs.
Emotional: Tools like breathing, prayer or meditation, mindfulness, and stress regulation reset your nervous system.

When these areas are aligned, the brain has the clarity to do what it was designed to do: heal, grow, and thrive.
Practical Tips for Brain Health This Month
Here are three steps you can start today:
Schedule regular adjustments or massage. Keep your brain-body communication pathways clear.
Fuel smart. Add one brain food daily (salmon, blueberries, spinach, or walnuts).
Breathe to reset. Practice the FAST technique 2 minutes morning and night to quiet your mind.
Your brain is not a fixed machine, it’s a living, dynamic, and constantly adapting organ. With chiropractic care, massage, nutrition, and nervous system support, you can optimize your brain for clarity, resilience, and lifelong performance.
This September, let’s focus together on building stronger brains and healthier bodies. Every adjustment, every deep breath, every healthy meal choice is an investment in the most important organ you own: your brain.
